The garden snail has been used in medicine since ancient times. Although the miraculous effect of snail slime and known since antiquity, it all began 20 years ago in a Chilean snail farm. All the farm workers notice that after prolonged processing of snails for sale in French restaurants, their hands become softer, their skin tightens, and cuts, burns or skin irritations heal much faster. Interested in these miraculous properties of snails, various scientific institutes and laboratories began more in-depth research on the composition of snail slime, resulting in the appearance of the first cosmetic creams with a filtrate or extract of snail slime. Currently, everyone is witnessing the ever-growing popularity of the series’ cosmetic products.

Snail slime extract is rich in natural glycolic acid. According to the publication ´What Does Glycolic Acid Do For Your Skin?´, dermatologists explain that glycolic acid is found in many cosmetic products, which have excellent reviews worldwide. The advantages of this acid are related to its low molecular weight. This means that when applied to the skin, it can pass through the epidermis without hindrance. In its depth there are cells whose maturation is associated with hardening and reaching the surface. Once these cells are at the top of the skin, they can no longer be diffusely nourished, and should be exfoliated. Glycolic acid helps with this – the maturation of cells and their exfoliation. The epidermis does not contain blood vessels to supply it with oxygen and its cells absorb everything they need through diffuse absorption. Therefore, the piles of dead cells on the surface of the skin lead to a kind of oxygen starvation. After removing them, the skin acquires a significantly fresher look. Snail slime contains natural hyaluronic acid. Its main advantage is that 1 molecule of hyaluronic acid can combine with up to 1000 molecules of water and thus increase its volume. Fibroblasts produce not only collagen and elastin, but also hyaluronic acid. However, as we age, a large number of these cells stop dividing and multiply, and then die.

Snail slime extract has various benefits when applied topically to the skin:

• accelerates wound healing
• prevents the formation of unpleasant scars – hypertrophic
• improves the appearance of old scars
• reduces the signs of premature aging due to excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays
• stimulates collagen synthesis
• improves skin hydration
• stimulates the proliferation of skin cells
• reduces pigment spots and evens out the complexion
• can be used to treat acne
• inhibits the growth of certain strains of pathogenic bacteria, viruses
• improves skin texture and the feeling of smoothness

This is how such a small animal is a great source of health, youth and beauty. It enriches the skin with water, thus rejuvenating it and stimulating the growth of new young cells, which beautifies it. The slime is extracted from snails without causing them any suffering or injury.
